Note To Self

It's alright to accept that you're not all that. That the things you write about are neither very exciting nor relevant. That you're not as skilled with language as you'd like. That you make horrendous mistakes in grammar & spelling. That your blog is just a blog and not a stepping stone to anything more meaningful like a book or a script. It's alright if you can do this calmly, without self-pity, without loud proclamations of "I will never write again!" It's fantastic if you decide, in the face of all this, that you must never stop doing what you enjoy so much. That nothing can stop you from writing that book or script or from correcting your spellings.

When a story needs to be told, it will compel you to do the needful. Till then, go finish reading all those books you promised you'd finish. There's more than enough grammar to be learnt from those things.

  1. You always seem really sad in your writing. Watch this video:

  3. I just saw the video, and I think I was hinting at the same idea in my post. Currently I'm working on taking the edge off the idea of creativity as this thing that makes you come 'undone', like Gilbert says. It's to confront your fears/insecurities & delink what Gilbert calls the link between 'creativity & suffering'and just DO WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY.

  4. We all go through those lows when we are expecting 'something' to happen from what we love doing. Then, we are lost and confused and sad. Yes, de-link, de-link. It doesn't matter in the long run. What does is that writing your blog, or that novel or that script makes you happy. Meanwhile, I am reading a lot of Hindi books these days, to get away from English grammar. :)

  5. Hey....thanks a ton for your comments.

Someone once said - language is like a windowpane by which u view the world. If clear, it draws our attention to the view outside, but if not, it draws attention to itself.

Having said that, if i can make the readers see what i want them to see and not draw his attention to the medium itself( that is, writing) too much - then i would say i have written well. Off course, the windowpane needs to be cleaned and polished, time and again - but the view of the garden outside, should also be worth it. I would want the reader to worry about the flowers which were trampled by passing feet and not too much about the pane.

And its alright to be nervous i guess. If u urself love the view outside, then u will somehow end up cleaning the pane.

  6. @Banno: Delinking as we speak :D Returning to writing in completely private spaces, apart from blogging. It's a huge relief in many ways.

@Himanghsu: My pleasure....and I absolutely love your comment - language as a windowpane - very nice!

Especially when you are new to the blogging world and have no clue how it works .But as you said , no point stopping what you enjoy , so write I shall, until I stop enjoying it .
